Many people are not truly aware the eating better will help you feel better. People tend to make it harder on themselves by giving into their cravings for “comfort food”. I’ve been one of them quite often, believe me! Comfort foods can be sugars, carbohydrates, and fats. When we have cravings for these fattening foods it’s usually a form of a survival response to our stress.
A lot of us experience stress so often, almost constantly for some. We make ourselves so busy doing things we feel we have to do that we feel that it isn’t possible to slow down. We live in a world full of busy, busy. What happens when we are so busy most of us will resort to fast food because its more convenient for our busy lives. Try changing this and see how you begin to feel.
Binge eating on comfort foods raises the serotonin levels in our brain which can give people a temporary sense of well-being. Many prescribed drugs increase serotonin levels such as Zoloft, Prozac and many more so it does make sense that people feel a sense of well-being. Basically what happens is we try self medicating with comfort foods.
This is where I want to talk about exercising. When we exercise we enhance our emotional well-being. Exercise can help with our sleep pattern, weight, mood, and energy. We will feel so much better even if it’s just 10 minutes here and there, it’s better than nothing. Exercising can help alleviate depression. Exercising can also help us relax so much better. Exercise can decrease your blood pressure and heart rate, strengthen your muscles and so much more! Its a win win situation but, I know it’s easier said than done. Start small then gradually work at more when you are ready to.
